Opensource - Una promesa sin cumplir?

The issue of Open-Source platform has been one of the most widely controversial in the field of technology, for many years. The promise of a free software platform that eliminates licensing costs, are countered by the problems access to support, upgrades and certified personnel. Leaving aside the possible political discussion on the controversial free-access software, IT managers can evaluate the Open-Source option as one that is becoming more suitable for use in managing the corporate platforms, with due consideration the limitations imposed by its use, and manage risks.

The greatest promise of open-source philosophy, in addition to significant savings, is the possibility for users to modify and customize the applications since it has full access to source code. This, though from the academic point of view may sound interesting, from the business point of view it is not so, as it requires flexible solutions to common problems: the companies do not have time to change applications from source and testing because that is not your business, and in general, people basic, have neither the time nor the knowledge to do so. Once

taken a decision to Open Source, the problem of servicing these solutions. At one extreme is a situation in which management technology continuously depends on an organized community forums, seminars and scattered resources and access-platform complex that, when they work, are available about few "geniuses" in a very unfriendly scheme for both users and managers.

Unless a technology manager considers part of its responsibility to test the solutions and taking the time to report and fix bugs in open-source platforms on, your best bet is to assess the experience in the industry, particularly if the system in question supports mission-critical processes. The risks involved in experimenting with unproven solutions in its stability and access to resources usually outweigh the advantages of open-source platform unless it has reliable evidence of its strength with clear examples and credentials success in the relevant industry.

In summary, based on Open Source solutions represent a valid and cost-efficient to the traditional scheme of licensing and operating systems. However, the benefit of the doubt (unless you want to risk a potentially lengthy and technical process of stabilization) should be against the effects of open source systems that support key processes or mission critical. The guarantee of a solid business experience and history to support their applications, or other credentials successful companies in the same industry, are necessary as support for the decision to use such systems in a company.

But think, if the problem of open source is the guarantee of support and endorsement of the industry. There is an opportunity for industry development in emerging countries? Having the community for the development of free applications would not reduce the Time 2 Market?
Now, if you usually buy the closed source companies (MS, Oracle, SAP, etc) for safety and tranquility of the managers of the organization. Because proprietary code fails because whether you pay for a good application? response time when the software failure is the business needs? owners are as stable as they say?
there I leave to think a while .. JGC as my friend who finally convinced me to start the blog.
